OUR READERS:
Our readers are professional artists, professors, curators, art historians, writers and students — those interested in contemporary lens-based, new media and film. Our readers hold onto their magazines: they share them, keep them for reference, for interest and are collected for our artist projects, which gives them occasion time and time again to see your ad and become familiar with your name.
With the high print and production quality of the magazine (70% is full-colour), we offer our advertisers the ability to have an impact on an established readership base that is always excited to learn about the latest in lens-based or digital technology. Our copies will be picked up nation-wide and in the US on newsstands; and nationally and internationally by our subscribers. An average of 500-1000 new readers encounter our product per issue at public launches, arts festivals, conferences, international art fairs, or through direct mailing campaigns. We are read in homes, studios, public and commercial galleries, libraries, film/video production houses, cafes, and at other high profile art events.

ABOUT:
BlackFlash Magazine is about photography and new media in art. We present critical opinions and ideas about contemporary art from across Canada, the United States and beyond. The magazine includes profiles, interviews, reviews, feature articles, and artist projects from both emerging and established artists, writers, and curators. We have just celebrated our 26th year of publication and is one of the longest running art magazines in Canada.
BlackFlash nourishes innovation in photography and electronic art production,
promotes energetic debate and showcases diverse voices and communities (local, regional, national and international.) emerging and established artists and writers. BlackFlash is published in Saskatoon, SK., and is an internationally recognized resource and authority on Canadian and International contemporary art.
BlackFlash has become a valuable site for artistic production—exemplified by our much acclaimed artist and curatorial projects, such as perforating the entire magazine to produce the bookwork by Jeremy Borsos in vol 19.1, using the 3D glasses for the storyboard narrative artwork by Doug Buis, and our DVD sound projects (vol. 24.2) to challenge the very architecture of the magazine while expanding the notions of artist projects.
Winner of best cover in Western Canada, Magazine of the Year (SK) 9 years in a row (2001 – 2009) and three awards from applied arts magazine for innovative contemporary design of a magazine. Join in with our success and use BlackFlash as part of your promotional strategy.
With our subscriber base quadrupling over the past five years and with that a 52% – 48% split between eastern and western subscribers, we are a truly Canadian national arts magazine.
